Weekly Round Up

Hi all, its been a pretty busy week here at LIC, the biggest story of the week was of course the leaked photograph from  Iron Man 3′s set revealing the Iron Patriot/Detroit steel armor. We also of course had our review of Prometheus which went up in the early hours yesterday morning (summary: good but not Alien, go see it anyway) as well as a few bits and pieces of news relating to E3 previews including Lucas Arts new Star Wars franchise 1313 , Dead Space 3 screens and those Sony streaming service rumors (turns out the deal is with Gaikai not Onlive and it will be for streaming PS2 and PSx games).

Next week is looking like it will be even crazier too with E3 kicking off on Monday with the Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo conferences taking place over in lovely LA so be sure to subscribe to our Gaming News RSS feed if you want to be kept up to date with all the latest news. Nintendo’s Wii U will hopefully be making a big splash with the games Halo 4, Assassins Creed 3, Black Ops 2 and of course Borderlands 2 being high on my personal watch list.

A Fantastic Fear Of Everything will be hitting the silver screen next Friday too starring the man himself Simon Pegg and of course Prometheus will be getting its US release on the same day. Be sure to stop by on Monday too for our weekend Box Office roundup.

There are also a few interesting comics hitting the shelves next week including Avenger Vs X-men #5, Dial H and Earth 2 #2 as well as Dark Avengers #175 and the first issue of Before Watchmen: Minutemen. We will also be posting reviews of America’s Got Powers#2, Resident Alien #0 & #1 as well as Mignola’s B.P.R.D Hell On Earth: The Transformation of J.H. O’Donnell later tomorrow so be sure to check back for that.

Borderlands 2 Reveals Loot

With Halo 4 revealing the details of it’s special edition, 2K/Gearbox revealed the special editions to be released as well. With one of the major joys of Borderlands being collecting lots and lots of loot and these collector editions allows you to collect real life loot as well! first we have the Deluxe Vault Hunter’s edition…

With this edition we get an art book, comic book download, some stickers, a map of Pandora and a bobble head of everyone’s favorite weapons dealer Marcus Kincaid. This itself is pretty cool as the artwork of Borderlands has always been great and it’ll be interesting to see how the story is developed in comic book format. This edition will be priced at $99(US)/£64.99. But say that isn’t enough for you and leaves you wanting more loot, there’s always the Ultimate Loot Chest edition…

This includes all the perks of the previous set but with a cloth map instead with the added bonus of a steelbox case, lithograph postcards, creatures from Pandora ID chart, vending machine bobblehead box, numbered certificate of authenticity and notes from the main villain Sir Hammerlock all in a replica of the common Borderlands loot chest! Again this edition gives you a lot for your money (even if it does cost a lot of money! $149.99 US/£99.99), but with it costing so much I may just have to stick with the deluxe edition I suppose. Also all pre-orders of the game allows access to the Premiere Club which includes free downloads for various weapons and an additional class which will be released shortly after the game is released, the Mechromancer. Borderlands 2 is set for a September 18th release in the US with a European release set for Septermber 21st.

Borderlands 2 Gameplay Preview

The folks at ign.com have uploaded just under 20 minutes of gameplay footage of Borderlands 2 today. The footage showcases both the Siren and Gunzerker classes.

So what can we take from these videos? Firstly the graphics have been upgraded, with everything looking smoother and more colourful. The weapons have also got a more varied look to them, where as some weapons looked very similar to each other in the previous game. The menu has had an over haul as well, looking a lot smoother and easier to navigate.

We get a closer look at both character’s abilities as well. The Siren’s psylocke ability looks  particularly useful in a group as it disables your enemy and lifts them up, making them easier to shoot. The Gunzerker’s ability is more basic and straight to the point. Dual wielding allows to fire more bullets and inflict more damage! Not a lot of detail is given in terms of how much you can personalise your abilities, but I’m sure more details will be given before the games release date on September 18th US, 21st UK.

Borderlands 2 First Impressions

So about 20 sconds into this video it tells you to get ready to joy  puke your face off…yep, Borderlands is back! It’s sense of humour and comic book style animation really drew me into the space western FPS. The simple charm of 17millions different guns and loot, loot and more loot makes up for what it lacked in the story department. It was not so much an large interactive world but more of a giant playground..with a hell of a lot of toys. So the announcement of a sequel in August got me excited and it has only grown since watching this trailer. From the looks of things there seems to be a bigger emphasis on story involving an uprising against Handsome Jack, who has taken over the Hyperion Corparation with the riches he gained after taking credit for finding the vault. We are also introduced to our 4 new playable characters as well as characters from the previous game with main characters returning as NPC’s. The new characters are awesome with more emphasis on customisation of the special abilities. We have Salvador who has the ability to allow him use 2 weapons at once, Maya is the siren of this game who instead of phase-walking can Phaselock, Axton who is similar to Roland from the first game in terms of abilities…except his turret can be customised to be used at different ranges. Our final character is Zero who is an assassin whose special ability is a stealth mode with the use of a decoy. His melee weapon is a samurai sword. Enough said. Overall this game is shaping up to be a contender for game of the year in my opinion with only drawback so far is having to wait till September to play it!
