Angry Birds Space is the latest title in the hugely successful Angry Birds franchise, and is probably the most anticipated installment of the franchise since the original game was released. Nothing against the Rio & Season editions but the game needed to try something a little different just to freshen it up a little. This is exactly what Space has done. The main objective is still pretty much the same, fire some angry birds at some pigs from a sling shot…except in space.
It’s easy to see the whole space aspect as some sort of gimmick but it is far from that. The space aspect completely changes the physics of the game altering the game play significantly. You can either use the orbit of small planets to get the birds where you want them or fling comets at pigs using the zero gravity. We also get some new designs of the birds as well as re-jigging of one. The yellow bird is now replaced with a purple one which can be used to home in on targets more accurately. We also get a new bird which can freeze blocks making it easier to break down stone blocks. The cut scenes are done in a more comic book fashion as well which looks pretty cool.
My overall first impression is it feels like playing the first game again for the first time with a fresh approach to the game. I’m pretty sure many hours will be spent on this very addictive game!
