Thor: The Dark World Trailer
What with all of the noise surrounding Iron Man 3′s immanent release it would be easy to forget about Marvel’s other big release this year. As is the case with Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World will take place in the wake of the events of last summers Avengers film and will see Thor battling an ancient race of Dark Elves led by the vengeful Malekith who threatens to plunge the universe into darkness.
The new trailer just dropped today and looks pretty interesting. As has been the pattern with super hero movies over the last few years, this sequel is looking a little darker than its predecessor. Oh and apparently the dark elves have a beef with London just like everyone else this year. Maybe they disapproved of the military funeral Maggie got the other week… Anyhow, Thor: The Dark World is due out this winter on December 31st and I am certainly looking forward to it.
First trailer for Rush released
Directed by Ron Howard, Rush tells the story of perhaps the most intense rivalry in motor sport history which raged between Niki Lauda and James Hunt. The film is set in a period where the glamour of Formula One was at its height, but it was also a time when drivers faced almost ridiculous levels of risk each time they took to the track.
Following a catastrophic and near fatal crash during the 1976 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, Formula One driver Niki Lauda (played by Daniel Brühl) returned to the race track to face his rival James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) in their pursuit of the 1976 World Championship at Fuji in Japan.
On a purely aesthetic level this movie looks drop dead gorgeous, Howard seems to have wrung every last drop of color and character from the fantastic 70′s setting (check out the images at the official site if you need convincing), the racing scenes also look pretty stunning. As a fan of F1 I am of course looking forward to seeing this story brought to cinema screens. It’s a story which many fans of the sport will be familiar with and one that thoroughly deserves to be told, here’s hoping the finished film lives up to that.
Lucas Spills Beans on Star Wars VII casting rumors
After a month or two of speculation and many coy(and not so coy) remarks from the people in question, none other the George Lucas himself has seen fit to confirm that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher will all be return to their roles in Star Wars VII. The comments were made by Lucas in an interview with Bloomberg Business Week who, when they asked whether the original trio, or indeed any original cast members, would be involved in the film he had the following to say;
“We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation. So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on. Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.” Read the rest of this entry
New Iron Man 3 Trailer
The action packed theatrical for Shane Black’s entry into the Iron man series just hit the web, and it looks like they are giving Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark plenty of trouble to deal with. Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin in particular is really looking pretty threatening (if not particularly mystical) as the head of an international terrorist organisation that seems to have it in for Stark.
It will be interesting to see if the film will tie Mandarin into the terrorist group Stark encounters in the first film or whether it will be an entirely separate entity. The political side of the film looks like it will be pretty important to the film too and it will be especially interesting to see how Rhode’s relationship with Stark is affected by his loyalty to the US government. Oh and there’s the whole Exteremis angle too, so yeah is gonna be pretty packed! Iron Man 3 will be out in Cinemas April 25th in the UK and Ireland.
Justice League Movie Probably Not Going to Happen
Whilst Marvel seemingly has phase 2 and phase 3 of their movies planned out, Warner Bros are once again showing that they’re not very good at this whole making superhero movies business. Despite having a 2015 release date in mind, the likelihood of a Justice League movie being released seems less likely as time goes on. The main problem at the moment seems to be the script written by Will Beall (writer of Gangster Squad), which has apparently been ditched due to it not being very good.
Stand alone Star Wars movies being planned
Following last weeks news that none other than J J Abrams will be directing the first episode of Disney’s new Star Wars trilogy and that the new film is being written by Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3, Little Miss Sunshine), there has been an avalanche of rumors regarding a series of stand alone films designed to explore the Star Wars universe beyond the story line of the new trilogy.
